Watch: Why Confidence Camp is unlike any other dance class your child has tried

We intentionally keep Confidence Camp small so every child receives encouragement, support, and individual attention as they learn and grow.

Why This Matters

Today’s children are growing up in a world filled with constant distraction, instant gratification, and fewer opportunities to develop real confidence through effort and perseverance.

We believe confidence isn’t something you simply give a child. It’s something they build through encouragement, challenge, consistency, and discovering they’re capable of doing difficult things.

Confidence Camp was created to give children that kind of experience.

Through Highland dance, students learn to work hard, stay focused, support one another, and feel proud of their progress in a positive and encouraging environment.

Our goal is not simply to create strong dancers.

Our goal is to help children grow into confident, resilient young people who carry those lessons far beyond the dance floor.

Meet your instructor

I'm Trisha Boyd — former international competitor, World Championship veteran, and founder of San Diego Highland Dance Academy.

I've spent 30+ years mentoring young dancers, and I built SDHDA to be the kind of environment I wish every child had access to: small, personal, and focused on building confident, resilient, courageous humans — not just dancers.

"Trisha seems to understand how to balance strict discipline with positive encouragement when working with her students." — Lynn-Marie, Parent review

What Makes Confidence Camp Different?

Confidence Camp is our introductory Highland dance experience for children who are ready to try something new, work hard, and grow in confidence along the way.

Unlike many traditional recreational dance programs, our academy focuses on:

  • confidence through challenge
  • earned progression
  • leadership and character
  • mentorship and peer culture
  • healthy competition without toxic pressure
  • individualized growth in a small-group environment

Many of our students go on to perform and compete successfully, but our deeper focus is helping children develop confidence, resilience, friendships, and pride in what they’re capable of accomplishing.
